PML-N receives nearly 14 million votes in the 2024 General Elections accounting for 23.6% of the national vote share: Gallup Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, April 16 (SABAH): Gallup Pakistan Digital Analytics team on Elections has performed analytics on Election 2024 data released so far by Election Commission of Pakistan.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) received nearly 14 million votes in the 2024 General Elections, accounting for 23.6% of the national vote share, making it the 2nd most popular political party after the collective independent candidates from Pakistani Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI-IND).

Across provinces in 2024: PML-N received the highest number of votes in Punjab at 12.4 million votes, making up 88.6% of its total votes across the country. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa it received 0.77 million votes, making up 5.5%, followed by Sindh where it received 0.34 million votes, accounting for 2.4%. Meanwhile it received 0.31 million votes in Balochistan, and 0.18 million in Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT), accounting for 2.2% and 1.3% of PML-N’s total votes respectively.

Across divisions in 2024: PML-N received the highest number of votes in Lahore Division in Punjab province with 2.84 million, while Dera Ismail Khan Division in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa received the lowest with only 657 votes total. PML-N received no support from the Larkana Division in Sindh province, having received zero votes there.

2018 vs 2024:

Total Votes in Punjab: Punjab received 0.79 million more votes in 2024 compared to 2018, the increase in votes was highest in the Multan division, accounting for 0.53 million, however votes decreased in Gujranwala, Lahore, Sahiwal and Sargodha divisions.

Vote Share in Punjab: Vote share of PML-N in Punjab decreased by 1.4% in 2024 compared to 2018, Gujranwala division recorded the highest fall by 8.3%, however Dera Ghazi Khan saw an incline of 7.2%.
Lahore Division: PML-N has historically had a stronghold in the Lahore Division, and it retained the highest vote share in the division across both the 2018 and 2024 General Elections. However, a decline was noted in both the total number of votes received and vote share, with PML-N having received 0.3 million lesser votes in 2024 (2.84 million) compared to 2018 (3.14 million), shrinking it’s vote share by 7.1% from 45.1% in 2018, to 38.1% in 2024.

Historical trend in Punjab: Vote share for PML-N has been declining since 2013, where it peaked at 46.7%, and the results in 2024 are in continuation of the trend.

The press release is based on data from the Form 47 of the Provisional Results Dashboard from the Election Commission of Pakistan website, noting the details of votes cast in each polling station. The data has been computed to represent overall results at the provincial and national levels.
