Pakistan saved Rs.106 billion owing to generation of clean and green hydel electricity during 2023

ISLAMABAD, Dec 29 (SABAH): Pakistan has saved Rs.106 billion, owing to generation of clean and green hydel electricity during 2023

According to the official figures, hydel generation of Water and Power Development Authority(WAPDA), the country generated about 34 billion units of low-cost, clean and green hydel electricity in 2023, The production of electricity was 2.2 billion units more than that of 2022.

Government of Pakistan saved about Rs. 106 billion, if same quantum of electricity was to be generated through expensive, imported fossil fuels. CWAPDA hydel electricity costs only Rs. 3.51 per unit; and it constitutes about 30% of the total electricity provided to the National Grid.
