Women should be given more opportunities & representation in general elections: Raja Pervez Ashraf

ISLAMABAD, June 05 (SABAH): Raja Pervez Ashraf, Speaker National Assembly, Islamic Republic of Pakistan during Seminar “RECLAIMING THE SPACE: Reading the Constitution from Women’s Perspective” remarked that nations progress only if women are given equal rights and opportunities.  

Raja Pervez Ashraf said that Pakistan is over legislated in certain matters but unfortunately lacks complete implementation particularly when it comes to rights and responsibilities of women.

Raja Pervez Ashraf said “women in Pakistan are very capable and as a Speaker I can vouch for the hard work and commitment shown by them in the Parliament”.

“I am lucky that I was politically trained and mentored by a woman leader Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto” he said. Raja Pervez Ashraf said that women should be given more opportunities and representation in general elections. He urged for creation of a Federal Ministry for Women Affairs.

Raja Pervez Ashraf said that the Constitution binds all segments of society and it is imperative that everyone should follow it in letter and spirit.
