Veteran actor Talat Hussain passes away in Karachi after a prolonged illness


KARACHI/ISLAMABAD, May 26 (SABAH): Veteran actor Talat Hussain has passed away in Karachi after a prolonged illness.

Talat Hussain was one of the pioneer voices of Radio Pakistan and a legendary actor of television and cinema. Karachi Arts Council President Ahmed Shah shared he was informed about the actor’s death by his daughter Tazeen Hussain. His funeral prayer will be offered at Masjid-e-Ayesha in Defence Phase 7 after Asr prayers.

Hussain, who is known for his prolific career in radio, television and cinema, was battling with prolonged illness and undergoing treatment in a private hospital.

Born in September 1940 in Delhi, India, the renowned thespian was married to professor Rakhshanda Hussain and was a father of three — two daughters and one son.

Hussain, studied from London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, and was awarded Sitara-e-Imtiaz (Star of Excellence) in 2021 and Pride of Performance Award in 1982 by the Goevernment of Pakistan.

He was also awarded Amanda Award in 2006 for best supporting actor in a Norwegian film “Import Eksport” and Nigar Award in 1986 for best supporting actor in film “Miss Bangkok”.

Hussain left an indelible mark in the Pakistani showbiz industry, from delightful dramas to insightful writing.

He had a decades long career in acting, singing and arts. He also worked for sometime for the BBC in London.

He worked in many dramas including “Arjumand” in 1970 on PTV, “Ansoo”, “Bandish”, “Des Pardes”, “Tariq Bin Ziad”, “Eid ka Jora”, “Fanooni Latifey” and Hawain”.

Meanwhile Acting President and Chairman Senate Makhdoom Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has expressed profound grief and sorrow over his sad demise and prayed for elevation of his ranks in Heaven.

He said Talat Hussain’s valuable services for fine arts will be remembered for long.

Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has expressed profound grief and sorrow over the demise of Talat Hussain.

In a condolence message, he said that late Talat Hussain was a legendary actor whose dialogue delivery was acclaimed for a long period of time.

The Prime Minister said the void left by his death cannot be filled.

He expressed sympathies with the bereaved family and prayed for the high ranks of the departed soul.

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar Advocate has expressed heartfelt condolences and profound sorrow over the demise of the esteemed actor and prolific voice artist of TV, film, theatre and radio Talat Hussain.

The Information Minister, in his condolence message, said late Talat Hussain was a unique artist who brought every character to life with his voice and acting.

He said late Talat Hussain showcased exceptional acting skills in the London Channel Four’s TV series ‘Traffik’.

He said that late Talat Hussain was a true mentor and his passing has deprived the world of arts of a great artist.

Attaullah Tarar prayed for high ranks of the departed soul in the hereafter and patience for his bereaved family.
