UNDP delegation calls on convener Parliamentary Taskforce on SDGs Bilal Azhar Kayani


ISLAMABAD, July 22 (SABAH): UNDP Delegation comprising Resident Representative Samuel Rizk, Deputy Resident Representative Van Nguyen, Assistant Resident Representative Ammara called on the Honourable Convener Parliamentary Taskforce on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Bilal Azhar Kayani at the Parliament House.

The Hon. Convener apprised the delegation with the ongoing progress of the Taskforce and the recent creation of 4 sub-groups inside the Parliamentary Taskforce based on 4 categories in which the 17 Sustainable Development Goals have been divided, namely; People, Prosperity, Planet & Peace & Partnership to ensure efficiency and effectiveness in the pursuance of the 17 SDGs.

Both sides discussed and agreed upon extending assistance and support to each other in conducting orientation sessions and workshops for Parliamentarians to equip them with sufficient knowledge regarding the progress, indicators and shortfalls in the attainment of 17 SDGs to ensure informed-legislation and advocacy on federal, provincial & local tiers of government. During the meeting, both sides also stressed upon the successful execution and implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework Pakistan and the resulting action plans and solutions proposed at the Summit of the Future.

Samuel Rizk lauded Convener Bilal Azhar Kayani on re-structuring the Parliamentary Taskforce into specialized & dedicated sub-groups and presented a souvenir lapel pin as a token of faith in his capabilities as Convener of Parliamentary Taskforce on SDGs.
