UET Lahore adds another feather to its cap, securing first prize in an international video course competition
LAHORE, Nov 14 (SABAH): IIOE is a global collaborative initiative to strengthen the teacher competency for Higher Education Institutes in developing countries and improve access to quality higher education resources.
To impart advanced knowledge regarding the usage of new technology, IIOE partnered with seewo, a pioneer in digital campus hardware tools production and information- based teaching ability training to organize the first IIOE Online Courses Competition.
The competition was divided into two parts: the Courseware Competition and the Video Course Competition. Educators and professionals in HEIs around the globe were encouraged to take part in this prestigious contest. Online course competition guidelines were made available on the IIOE portal and based on the criteria video submissions were evaluated by the distinguished panel of judges nominated by the IIOE. 207 teachers and staff from 45 countries around the world participated in the competition and 13 entrants from 7 countries stood out on the victory stand.
In the Asia-Pacific region, the University of Engineering and Technology Lahore turned out to be victorious. Muhammad Tahir Naeem, Senior Researcher at KICS-UET Lahore secured 1st prize, Tsooj Shambaljamts from Mongolian University of Science and Technology, Mongolia got 2nd prize, Otmrksb Kalawana from the University of Colombo, Srilanka and Huda Riaz from University of Engineering and Technology Lahore got 3rd prize whereas Ganagathulasi Janardhanan from National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research, India, Rzi Abbas from University of Engineering and Technology Lahore, and Suvd Erdenechimeg from Mongolian University of Science and Technology got a special prize.
A prize distribution ceremony was organized at the Vice Chancellor’s office at UET Lahore to acknowledge and appreciate the performance of the winners from the university. Vice Chancellor UET Lahore, Prof. Dr. Syed Mansoor Sarwar graced the occasion with his presence as a chief guest. Lyu Feng, Assistant Director and Chief of IIOE Management Centre, Director Al-Khawarizmi Institute of Computer Science (KICS) UET Lahore, Prof. Dr. Waqar Mahmood, Dean Faculty of Civil Engineering, Prof. Dr. Habib ur Rehman, Chairperson Department of Architecture Engineering, Prof. Dr. Sajjad Mubeen, and Hassan Adeel Shahzad, Programme Specialist, UNESCO ICHEI were distinguished guests of the presentation ceremony.
While speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chancellor UET, Prof. Dr. Syed Mansoor Sarwar said “it really indicates the level of interest and passion for online learning that UET teachers have developed over the past few years particularly since we started interacting with the International Institute of Online Education”.
Setting the tone and agenda of the sitting, Dr Waqar Mahmood briefed the participants with the competition highlights and IIOE recent activities that are being taken place at the university. Lyu Feng not only congratulated the position holders but also appreciated the efforts of IIOE partner UET Lahore in achieving its milestones in a quick period of time.
Towards the end of the ceremony, prizes to the position holders from UET were given away by the Chief Guest, Prof. Dr. Syed Mansoor Sarwar, and the presentation ceremony was concluded with a group photo of the participants with the distinguished guests.
