Two-thirds majority of Pakistanis in favor of mid-term elections to be held within this year: IPSOS Survey


ISLAMABAD, June 03 (SABAH): According to the results of the survey conducted by IPSOS, a non-governmental organization, two-thirds majority of the Pakistanis is in favor of mid-term elections to be held within this year.

During the survey it was asked from the masses that now a days, there is discussion on raising fuel/diesel prices. To what extend, would you agree or disagree with the following statements?

According to results of the IPSOS survey, while announcement of ever-highest single increase in fuel prices by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) led federal government was made last week, 6 in 10 (62) percent Pakistanis were not convinced by the justifications offered, and about the same number of people fear that their hardships would get even worst due to such increase in fuel prices. Meanwhile 19 percent people agreed that increasing fuel prices is right decision. The 19 percent people said at this moment, raising the fuel prices is inevitable and it is good for country.

59 percent people said that at this point in time, raising fuel prices will further aggravate the problems of ordinary people. Meanwhile 17 percent people disagreed that at this point in time, raising fuel prices will further aggravate the problems of ordinary people. 

During the second question was asked during the survey, do you think federal government should complete its term or should announce mid-term elections?

According to the result of the question, amid political uncertainty inflicted by Imran Khan calling off Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf long march abruptly, two-thirds majority of Pakistanis is in favor of mid-term elections to be held within this year. 64 percent people said mid-term election should be announced and elections should be held this year. Meanwhile the 36 percent people replies that government should complete its full term and election should be held next year.
