Thieves and dacoits are afraid of arrest, but leaders are not: Maryam Nawaz
SHEIKHUPURA, Mar 14 (SABAH): Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senior Vice President and Party’s Chief Organizer Maryam Nawaz Sharif has come down hard on former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, for evading arrest and “hiding under his bed”.
Speaking at the organisational convention of PML-N in Sheikhupura on Tuesday, Maryam Nawaz said that “thieves and dacoits are afraid of arrest, but leaders are not”. PML-N leaders including Interior Minister and PML-N Punjab President Rana Sanaullah Khan, Minister for Federal Education and Professional Training Rana Tanveer Hussain, Parvaiz Rasheed, Talal Chaudhry, Uzma Zahid Bukhari, Sania Ashiq Jabeen and other leaders also attended the event.
Maryam Nawaz went on to compare Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, her father and former prime minister, with Imran Khan. Maryam said that Nawaz Sharif did not hide when times were tough and even came to court his own arrest, while Imran Khan is hiding under his bed.
She advised Imran Khan to show some courage and present himself before the judiciary by courting his arrest.
Maryam also criticized Imran Khan for his treatment of political workers, citing the example of Zille Shah, a PTI worker who was killed in Lahore last week. She accused Imran of doing politics on Zille Shah’s death and putting other people’s children on the line to take the police’s beating.
She emphasised that the PML-N is not just competing in the upcoming election but is entering the field to win it.
The PML-N stalwart reiterated that Imran Khan must face accountability before the general election. She criticised the unequal treatment of Nawaz Sharif and Imran Khan, stating that Nawaz Sharif has faced hundreds of court appearances despite being innocent, while Imran Khan is trying to walk free despite “being a criminal”.
Maryam also responded to criticism from former chief justice Mian Saqib Nisar, who accused her of misbehaving, stressing that she was trained by Nawaz Sharif and Kulsoom Nawaz and that she was only showing people the mirror.
Maryam Nawaz lavished praise on the PML-N supporters, saying, “The passion of the workers is forcing me to contest elections from Sheikhupura.
Reminding the deposed premier about “making a case against the interior minister”, Maryam Nawaz said Imran Khan had made a bogus case against Rana Sanaullah. “Today, Rana Sanaullah has been appointed as the interior minister, while Imran is hiding in his home,” she added,
Slamming Imran Khan for evading arrest, Maryam Nawaz said she never saw any of the political leaders to remain feared in terms of getting arrested.
“Whenever the court summoned him, he made excuses of being injured. What type of threat to life that can only happen while he is appearing before the court? But there is no threat to life to Imran in connection with the staging of public gatherings,” Maryam Nawaz schooled Imrna Khan.
She said Imran Khan started to panic like a child, whenever the police came to arrest him.
Recounting the return of PML-N supremo, Maryam Nawaz said, “Nawaz Sharif came to country by leaving her dying wife.”
“Why are you escaping accountability if you are not involved in any sort of plundering,” questioned Maryam Nawaz. The one who does not involve himself in any sort of plundering gives accountability, even of his generations,” said Maryam Nawaz.
Meanwhile Maryam Nawaz on Tuesday said if any police official is injured in Zaman Park, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan will be responsible.
Keeping in view the present scuffle between the police and PTI activists in Zaman Park, Maryam Nawaz in a tweet cautioned if any police officer or jawan is injured in Zaman Park on Tuesday, Imran will be responsible. She added the sons of the nation are not redundant, they are doing their duty.
