There will be a sit-in in Islamabad on July 12 against increase in prices of electricity, gas & petrol & taxes on salaried class: Hafiz Naeemur Rehman
ISLAMABAD, July 4 (SABAH): Emir Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Engineer Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has said that there will be a sit-in in Islamabad on July 12 against the increase in the prices of electricity, gas and petrol and taxes on the salaried class. He said if the government tries to obstruct it, it will be a move against the government itself. He said it is not our agenda to topple the government, adding if the government wants to topple itself, what objection can we have?
When former Prime Minister Imran Khan comes out of jail, there will be discussions on national issues with him, he said. While talking to the bureau chiefs of a private TV channels in Islamabad on Thursday, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, answering various questions from journalists associated with electronic media, said that they are in touch with opposition Ittehad Tehreek-e-Tafaquz Ain e-Pakistan and they also hold meetings. Struggle against election rigging is our common agenda, he added.
He said everyone has the same position in this regard, but Jamaat-e-Islami is not a part of any alliance. He said Jamaat-e-Islami is propagating the political process on the basis of issues. He said in the environment of confusion, they cannot confuse their voters and supporters, adding they want the supremacy of the constitution.
He said the distance between people and institutions is increasing, the burden of IPPs has been put on the people, taxes are heavy on the salaried class, flour, pulses and sugar have also been taxed, while the elite are not brought into the tax net. There is no action plan, why is tax not collected from the landlords, he questioned. He said that the platform of Jamaat-e-Islami is being widened, teams and working groups are being formed in various fields, on the basis of public issues that is why they are holding a sit-in, whoever wants to participate in the dharna will be welcomed.
Hafiz Naeemur Rehman said this will not be a symbolic sit-in and they will sit permanently at the best place in Islamabad. He said caravans will come from all over the country. Traders, organizations, youth, students, farmers, workers are in touch with them, he said. Soon, the charter of demand of the sit-in will be announced. He said resources are also available but there is a lack of competence and capacity. He said the real problem is incompetence of the rulers and this is the biggest burden on Pakistan.
