There is no place of enforced disappearance in any state & society: Amina Masood Janjua
ISLAMABAD, April 24 (SABAH): Chairperson Defence of Human Rights Amina Masood Janjua while expressing concerns over press conference of federal ministers regarding missing persons has said that there is no place of enforced disappearance in any state and society.
In a statement while giving her reaction over press conference of federal ministers Azam Nazeer Tarar and Ataullah Tarar, Amina Masood Janjua said if there are proofs against missing persons they should be presented in the court according to the Constitution and law.
She said according to international law, the citizens could not be disappeared in any situation. Leadership of Defence of Human Rights while giving reaction over press conference of federal ministers, said that there are many missing persons which have not registered report.
Defence of Human Rights expressed concerns over press conference of law minister regarding the missing persons. Amina Masood Janjua said the government should not resolve the issue during short period of time but it should show seriousness towards the issue. She said that according to international law in any situation either it is terrorism or war situation or emergency, there is no place for missing persons.
She also expressed concerns over a law which was introduced by Shireen Mazari, the then minister for human rights in 2021 was debated every year. She said it was passed in 2023 by the National Assembly but it could not be passed from the Senate while the UN law for enforced disappearances was not signed and the government did not endorsed it. She questioned what the government wanted and where should go the victims of enforced disappearances for sorting out their issues.
She further said if the government is really serious to resolve the issue of missing persons then it should include the heirs in the committee. She said the government should resolve the issue in the light of recommendations of heirs of the missing persons.
