The Award for Khurram Parvez in Europe is a victory for the oppressed Kashmiris: Ali Raza Syed


BRUSSELS, Feb 16 (SABAH): Chairman Kashmir Council Europe (KC-EU) Ali Raza Syed has praised the “Martin Ennals Foundation”, an important human rights organization based in the capital of Switzerland for announcing its annual award for Khurram Parvez, a world-renowned Kashmiri human rights activist.

Ali Raza Syed said this in a statement on Thursday in Brussels before leaving for Geneva, where he will attend the awarding ceremony for Khurram Parvez. He added, by offering “Martin Ennals Award” the foundation has recognized the Human rights of oppressed people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Khurram Parvez, who has played an important role in highlighting the human rights violations in Occupied Kashmir at the international level,  has been in jail for more than one year on baseless charges. As Khurram Parvez is imprisoned, not yet known who will receive the award on his behalf.

The Martin Ennals Foundation is named after Martin Ennals, a prominent British human rights leader and former Secretary General of Amnesty International. Apart from Khurram Parvaiz, the organization has also announced the award to Delphine Djiraibé (Chad), Feliciano Reyna (Venezuela). The award ceremony will take place on Thursday, February 16 in Geneva.

According to the foundation, these human rights activists have continuously struggle for thirty years to highlight human rights and bring justice to the victims of human rights violations, despite the threats to their lives and other challenges.

Ali Raza Syed has paid great tribute to the Martin Ennals Foundation whose management has chosen a very suitable and right Kashmiri personality for this award. He said that the foundation has recognized the rights of Kashmiris by announcing the award for Khurram Parvez and it is also a proof that Europe is aware of human rights violations in Occupied Kashmir.

Chairman Kashmir Council EU called on the international community to put pressure on India to release Khurram Parvez and other Kashmiri human rights activists, journalists and political leaders and activists.

He demanded the need for a just and peaceful solution to the Kashmir issue and requested the European Union and other world powers to play their role for a proper solution to the Kashmir issue, a resolution acceptable to the Kashmiris.
