Syed Ali Geelani was the icon of bravery & steadfastness & had allocated his whole life for freedom movement of Kashmir: Sirajul Haq


RAWALPINDI/ISLAMABAD, Sep 01 (SABAH): Emir Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Sirajul Haq has said that flood mafia is hell bent on  profiteering while throwing the already helpless peoples in further sufferings. He said that late senior Kashmiri Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani was the icon of bravery and steadfastness and had allocated his whole life for the freedom movement of Kashmir.

Sirajul Haq expressed these views while addressing the Ulema Mashaikh Convention in Rawalpindi, ahead of his departure for Malaysia on Thursday. Sirajul Haq paid glowing tribute to Syed Ali Shah Geelani on his first martyrdom anniversary. He said the services of Syed Ali Geelani will be written in golden words and history will always remember him.

He said instead of extending relief to the masses in this trying time the government jacked up petrol and electricity prices. Injustice and repression threw the masses in suffocation like situation; he deplored, and said catastrophic floods devastated each and thing while ironically the rulers are still hell bent on their personal grudges.

He appealed to the religious scholars to come forward to guide the nation and added “we will have to be united to tackle with the prevailing situation.” He requested the philanthropists to come forward to assist the flood-stricken people and don’t put them at the mercy of foreigners.

Meanwhile Emir Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Sirajul Haq has termed floods a trial and advised the entire nation to come on one page to deal with the prevailing scenario.

Sirajul Haq expressed these views during in an interview with the state-run TV channel. He said their almost 16,000 workers were taking part in ongoing operations with the spirit of honesty and eagerness, and added up till not Pakistanis provided them over Rs 2 billion.

Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan is rendering services for the benefit of the humanity regardless of religion, creed, color and political motives, he said, they assign tasks to the volunteers suited to them. Wherever the victims ask to transport their economic resources, the volunteers assist them doing so, he added.

At the moment the most important job is to provide the calamity-hit people with tents, tarpaulins and rations, he said and thanked the nation and Pakistanis for their tangible contribution in relief activities. He expressed his confidence in the volunteers of Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan which is indeed a success of Pakistani nation.

He said over 45 million of people were affected by the flood; 5 million house were damaged and 1060 of our brothers were martyred, adding there is still further needed to be done as for as the matter of rehabilitation of the victims is concerned. 

He said the first job was to save the lives of people and providing them with relief and rations, which was completed while the second one, i.e., rehabilitation was still to be done but it needed full cooperation of nation and Pakistanis.

A survey is also being conducted to evaluate the level of severity of losses of individuals; either someone’s home was completed washed way or partly got damaged, he said. There are a number of households who have only single dresses with no other luggage and that the survey is determining such factors, he added.  

Sirajul Haq said due to availability of Alkhidmat Foundation’s infrastructure at the grassroots level they are facing as such no particular issues regarding collection of information.

A number of people affiliated with them have started to provide victims with empty houses by paying their rents, he said. “I am pleased to pronounce that people have started offering their empty houses to be used by the flood victims for over two to three months. Alkhidmat Foundation has offices in every city along with their organizational structures comprising members who were performing their duties wishfully, Sirajul Haq concluded.
