Strict action to be taken against ROs if bad faith proved in holding LG polls in Karachi: CEC

ISLAMABAD, Jan 25 (SABAH): Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja has said that stringent action would be taken against returning officers (ROs) if any bad faith proved in holding local bodies’ elections in Karachi.

ECP’s three-member bench headed by CEC Sikandar Sultan Raja conducted hearing of application filed by Jamaat-e-Islami. Counsel for Jamaat-e-Islami argued before the bench that anomalies on large scale occurred in the LB polls and furthered the presiding officers committed mistakes in the counting of votes.

He further said that Emir Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi Eng Hafiz Naeemur Rehman told him that there was difference in the result of ROs and Form-11 and added if this was true it would be rectified. He further said that the electoral watchdog took these elections seriously and it can punish employees of any institution.

He further said, “If you file complaints regarding these union councils, we will hold the elections again. Form-11 is important than all other things. I had issued strict directions in this regard.”

Raja remarked that Daska’s example is before everyone and added this issue will be dealt in the same way. He also directed Jamaat-e-Islami to provide Form-11 of union councils and ROs results to the Election Commission and added action would be taken against those found involved.
