Sirajul Haq urges Overseas Pakistan to come forward to help out flood victims

ISLAMABAD, August 28 (SABAH): Emir Jamaat-e-Islami Sirajul Haq has said nowadays the entire nation is suffering from a worst episode as each and every corner of the country is inundated with floodwater.

Sirajul Haq expressed these views while addressing a presser here on Sunday in Islamabad, as well as on the occasion of departure of aid caravans towards the flood affected areas. He was also accompanied by Naib Emir Jamaat-e-Islami, Mian Muhammad Aslam, Emir Jamaat-e-Islami Islamabad Nasrullah Randhawa and President of a business forum, Kashif Chaudhry.

In view of prevailing circumstances it is duty of all of us to save the nation, Sirajul Haq said, and added all the political parties need to be on the same page to serve the nation by ignoring differences among them. Right now, the country is passing through critical juncture and the political parties need to cooperate with one another by putting aside leg pulling, he added.

He maintained that Jamaat-e-Islami is sending relief goods valuing over Rs 40 million from the federal capital which is indicative of its reliability in the eyes of the people, adding he is grateful to all of them.  He said the mothers sold out their jewelry and the youth gave their pocket money for the flood victims but the government representatives took only aerial view of the affected areas.

“Rains began since June 14 and Metrological Department had forecasted the floods situation ahead of this date. I question while why no measure was taken despite being cognizant of the facts and figures. I visited across the country and saw helpless people passing cold nights under an open sky besides suffering from epidemics but nothing is palpable that is dubbed as government. People are passing through critical times and are seen busy dealing with the critical situation on their own,” he said.

He said the volunteers of Jamaat-e-Islami and Alkhidmat Foundation are working day and night to serve the people and providing them with ration, clothes and medical facilities. So far the people gave funds of Rs 450 million to Alkhidmat Foundation which were disbursed among the flood affected people.

He said that the Jamaat-e-Islami and Alkhidmat Foundation are providing medical facilities to almost 20,000 people and for this purpose while 145 medical centres were set up throughout the country. People should seek forgiveness from Almighty Allah as the entire nation is suffering from the episode, he said. He said the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and Pakistan People’s Party did not perform tangible work on the construction of dams, adding some dams which were constructed were so defective that they were washed away by the floodwater.

Sirajul Haq said that by conserving the floodwater, wasteland could be utilized which can give a boost to the economy of the country but due to incapability of the governments nothing could be done. People will soon tighten the noose around the necks of rulers, he said. He said media role is also not worth appreciating as Balochistan kept on sinking and it continued covering PTl leader Shahbaz Gill.

I appeal to the overseas Pakistan to fully participate in the funds for the people affected by the devastation of the floods as your aid in this regard is the need of the hour. Jamaat-e-Islami will continue playing its role with the spirit of service of the nation.
