Sirajul Haq stresses indispensable need for free & fair elections as a prerequisite for achieving peace & prosperity in country
LOWER DIR, Dec 29 (SABAH): Jamaat-e-Islami Emir Sirajul Haq has stressed the indispensable need for free and fair elections as a prerequisite for achieving peace and prosperity in the country.
Addressing various corner meetings in his constituency, NA-6 in Lower Dir, he advocated for a single-day polling process across the entire country, rejecting any proposals for delay or postponement in specific areas based on weather conditions or security concerns.
He contended that forming a weak government without a genuine mandate after the elections would be insufficient to address the challenges confronting the country. He expressed concern that the nation stands on the brink of multiple crises and emphasized the necessity of a strong democratic government to navigate through these challenges.
Highlighting the shared responsibility of both former democratic and martial law governments for the current problems faced by the people, Haq criticized these ruling entities as family and relative-centric, prioritizing personal interests over the welfare of the public. The actions of these former rulers have damaged the economy and weakened institutions, resulting in the deterioration of the rule of law and accountability in the country, he said.
Expressing skepticism about those who have frequently formed governments in the past and are now claiming to resolve the issues, he asserted that they have been exposed and are incapable of addressing the prevailing crises. Consequently, he positioned the Jamaat-e-Islami as the sole hope for the people.
He pledged that, if elected, the Jamaat-e-Islami would establish the rule of law, repair the economy, and transform Pakistan into a state capable of confronting international challenges. He envisioned a Pakistan that could effectively advocate for the rights of Palestinians, Kashmiris, and the entire Ummah.
