Sheikh Rashid says he will keep supporting Imran Khan, even if at the risk of facing death

RAWALPINDI, May 28 (SABAH): Awami Muslim League (AML) Chief and former interior minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed has claimed that “three persons are engaged to eliminate me”, saying “there is a limit to oppression”. “I want to tell the nation that I have the right to defend myself and I have written to the authorities of Pakistan’s actual government that there is a limit to abuse,” he added.

“For the past 20 days, police have been raiding the houses of my sisters, my family members, and even my mother who passed away 30 years ago,” he said in a video message shared on Twitter.

“I was not in the country, but despite that, I condemned the events of May 9. I believe Pakistan Army is our protector. But I have a right to defend myself.”

Sheikh Rashid said he will keep supporting PTI Chairman Imran Khan, even if at the risk of facing death.

Saying that those leaving the PTI might be cowards or under pressure and threats, Rashid added, “Death is my beloved, handcuffs are my jewellery […] and until Imran is fighting this fight, I am standing with him.”

The AML chief alleged that raids are being conducted at the houses of his sisters, brothers and mother, who had passed 30 years ago. Clarifying that he was not present in Pakistan when the incidents of May 9 took place, he said he still condemned them. “I consider the Pakistan Army the country’s protector but I am not a coward,” Rashid said.

The AML chief added that although he was not in the country, he condemned the events of May 9, saying that he considers the “Pakistan Army great and protector of the country”. He also claimed that three men have been engaged to eliminate him. “I want to tell the nation that I have the right to defend myself. I have written to the real government officials of Pakistan,” he added. Sheikh Rashid also said that there is “a limit to oppression”.

“I have only been tweeting for the past 20 days and have not even been on a TV talk show. If [they] are afraid of my Twitter, I will continue tweeting until I am arrested,” he said.
