Senator Samina Zehr celebrates 20th anniversary of Pak Mission Society; highlights its transformative impact on marginalized communities

ISLAMABAD, Dec 16 (SABAH): Senator Samina Mumtaz Zehri, Chairperson Senate Functional Committee on Human Rights on Monday praised the Pak Mission Society for its two decades of remarkable service to marginalized communities across Pakistan, marking the organization’s 20th Anniversary and Christmas Dinner event. The Senator highlighted the society’s impactful work in humanitarian aid, interfaith harmony, and social cohesion, commending its efforts to build resilience in vulnerable populations.

Addressing an audience of distinguished guests, Senator Zehri acknowledged Pak Mission Society’s extensive outreach and success, emphasizing the significance of the 137 successful projects completed, the $14 million disbursed, and the 1.3 million beneficiaries reached across 34 districts. She stressed that the organization’s work had brought transformative change to communities in need, particularly in education, healthcare, and social welfare. “Pak Mission Society’s work represents a beacon of hope and compassion, empowering communities that have long been excluded from the benefits of societal progress,” said Senator Zehri. “Your tireless commitment to providing sustainable solutions and fostering social cohesion is deeply aligned with our collective vision for a prosperous and inclusive Pakistan.” 

On the occasion of Christmas, Senator Zehri also shared a message of goodwill, urging all citizens to embrace the spirit of compassion and unity. “Let us renew our commitment to serving humanity and working towards a more peaceful and inclusive world. May the spirit of Christmas inspire us all to continue spreading hope and kindness”. 

Senator Zehri also commended the Pak Mission Society’s faith-based approach to promoting interfaith harmony and bridging divides in a diverse society. She described their efforts as vital in today’s complex social and political environment, noting that their initiatives serve as a model for unity amidst religious, ethnic, and cultural differences. 

“Pak Mission Society stands as a testament to the power of faith in bringing people together, fostering unity, and promoting peaceful coexistence,” the Senator added. 

Highlighting the collaborative work of Pak Mission Society and the National Commission of Human Rights (NCHR), Senator Zehri expressed her commitment to advancing human rights advocacy across Pakistan. She reiterated the importance of partnerships in protecting the rights and dignity of every individual, particularly those from marginalized backgrounds. 

Senator Zehri further acknowledged the increasing challenges posed by climate change and its disproportionate impact on the most vulnerable communities. She lauded Pak Mission Society’s efforts to address environmental degradation, calling for continued advocacy to ensure that human rights and environmental protections go hand in hand. “We must prioritize policies that protect our most vulnerable populations from the impacts of climate change,” said Senator Zehri. “Pak Mission Society’s work in this regard is a powerful example of how we can simultaneously advance human rights and tackle the global climate crisis.” 

Emphasizing the importance of inclusivity, Senator Zehri urged that no one be left behind in the nation’s pursuit of progress. She pointed out that the work of Pak Mission Society in reaching the “unreached” was an inspiring example of how collaboration can drive social and economic inclusion for all. In closing, Senator Zehri called for continued collaboration between government agencies, civil society, and faith-based organizations to address pressing issues such as poverty, education, health, and climate resilience.
