Senator Rubina Khalid reiterates BISP’s commitment to the welfare of underprivileged communitiesthrough Benazir Kafaalat, Taleemi Wazaif & Nashonuma initiatives
ISLAMABAD, Feb 13 (SABAH): BISP is committed to enhancing
the well-being of vulnerable segments of society, especially
women. Education and healthcare are fundamental rights of every
child, BISP maintains a database of over 38 million households:

BISP reaffirms its support for maternal and child health
initiatives, full cooperation assured to all stakeholders for
effective policy implementation.
Chairperson of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP),
Senator Rubina Khalid, attended the Roundtable Conference on
the Scale-up of Family Planning Vouchers in Pakistan today as the
chief guest. The conference, organized by the Population Council
and UK International Development, aimed to bring together key
stakeholders from the public and private sectors at both national
and provincial levels to discuss policy formulation and potential
measures for expanding family planning voucher programs across
various districts in Pakistan.
Addressing the participants, Senator Rubina Khalid reiterated
BISP’s commitment to the welfare of underprivileged
communities, particularly women, through Benazir Kafaalat,
Taleemi Wazaif and Nashonuma initiatives. She emphasized the
importance of empowering deserving women to make informed
decisions about their education and healthcare.
She further highlighted that BISP maintains a database of over 38
million households through its National Socio-Economic Registry
(NSER), which is shared with other social protection institutions
at the provincial level, adhering to strict security protocols. BISP
has also provided data for the pilot phase of the Family Planning
Voucher Program to support its implementation.
Discussing BISP’s role in maternal and child health, the
Chairperson mentioned that under the Benazir Nashonuma
program, conditional cash assistance and nutritious food are
provided to pregnant and lactating mothers, as well as children
under the age of two.
She urged parliamentarians to play an active role in raising public
awareness about population growth and resource constraints. She
reiterated that quality education and healthcare are fundamental
rights of every child and assured all stakeholders of BISP’s full
support for effective maternal and child health initiatives.
Prominent figures who also spoke at the event included Provincial
Minister for Health and Population Welfare Sindh, Dr. Azra Fazal
Pechuho; Vice Chairperson Punjab Social Protection Authority,
Jahan Ara Wattoo; Country Director Population Council, Dr. Zeba
Sattar; and Joe Moir, Development Director (FCDO).
They appreciated the role of BISP’s National Socio-Economic
Registry in identifying and reaching out to deserving women,
providing them with essential health services, and enhancing
overall accessibility to family planning resources.
