Senator Irfan Siddiqui resigns from the Senate Standing Committee on Education
ISLAMABAD, August 08 (SABAH): Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) senior leader Senator Irfan Siddiqui on Tuesday resigned from the Senate Standing Committee on Education.
Senator Irfan Siddiqui will now be a member of the National Health Committee, while Senator Raahat Jamali from Pakistan Muslim League (N) has been added to the Standing Committee on Education.
The resignation came a day after the PML-N parliamentary leader in the Senate was snubbed during a meeting of the Education Committee by its Chairperson Senator Bushra Anjum Butt.
The chairperson interrupted Senator Irfan Siddiqui while he was in the middle of a discussion allowing the committee’s secretary to speak instead.
This led to strong protests from PTI Senator Fauzia Arshad and MQM Senator Khalida Ateeb, who demanded an apology from the Chairperson. Senator Bushra Anjum Butt apologized, which was accepted by Senator Irfan Siddiqui.
On Thursday, Senator Siddiqui met with Senate Chairman Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani and resigned from the Standing Committee on Education. His resignation was accepted and the formal notification has also been issued.
