Senator Amir Chishti takes notice of the irregularities in fees at medical colleges in Islamabad
ISLAMABAD, Sep 18(SABAH): Chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on National Health, Senator Amir Waliuddin Chishti, stated that complaints have been received from dozens of students and their parents in Islamabad regarding private medical colleges openly violating the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council’s fee regulations. The council clearly stated in a public notice issued on November 30, 2023, that the next year’s fees should only be collected if the student passes the previous year’s examination.
According to parents, despite this directive, students have been issued challans for the next year’s fees while the previous year’s results have not been announced. Similarly, under a notification issued on September 14, 2023, the PMDC instructed all colleges to provide a 2% discount to students paying a six-month fee in a lump sum and a 4% discount to those paying the entire year’s fee in one go. Parents making complaints have pointed out that some colleges are not providing these discounts and are unlawfully denying any concessions to those paying in lump sums.
Senator Amir Chishti stated in a press release that this public interest issue will be included in the agenda of the next committee meeting. All medical college administrations in Islamabad will be summoned, and effective legal action will be taken against the violators. He emphasized that we will not allow such injustice against our children.
