Senate played important role in strengthening democratic values, ensuring rights & full representation of provincial units: Sadiq Sanjrani
ISLAMABAD, Feb 01 (SABAH): Chairman Senate Mir Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani chaired a meeting of a committee consisting of parliamentary leaders in the Upper House regarding the Senate Golden Jubilee celebrations.
Committee meeting was attended by, Deputy Chairman Senate, Senator Mirza Muhammad Afridi, Leader of the House in Senate, Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Leader of the Opposition Senator Dr. Shahzad Wasim, Senators Saleem Mandviwala, Azam Nazir Tarar, Anwarul Haq Kakar, Mushtaq Ahmed, Sardar Muhammad Shafiq Tareen, Haji Hidayatullah Khan, Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri, Dilawar Khan and Secretary Senate Mohammad Qasim Samad Khan.
Chairman Senate Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani held a detailed consultation with the parliamentary leaders regarding the organization of special events to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of the establishment of the Senate of Pakistan. The Chairman Senate informed that the completion of 50-year journey of the Upper House is a historic occasion. Senate has played important role in strengthening democratic values, ensuring the rights and full representation of the provincial units. He suggested in the meeting that the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Senate, which were earlier decided to be celebrated with full enthusiasm across the country, should be limited keeping in view the current economic conditions of the country.
“The expenses should be minimized as much as possible” he added. The Parliamentary leaders agreed upon the suggestion of Chairman Senate, Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani that instead of the events to be organized at the provincial level, a short and dignified ceremony should be held only in the federal capital. In this regard, a special session of the upper house will be called from 15 to 17 March 2023 at the Parliament House Islamabad. In this session, all the members of the Senate will be given ample opportunity to present their views on the occasion. Foreign guests and former members of the Senate will also be invited to the Golden Jubilee celebrations.
Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani said that the purpose of organizing the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Senate is to highlight the historical and exemplary importance of the Upper House. Every possible measure will be taken to minimize the expenses on the events. He said that, amid such economic crisis the rehabilitation work in flood affected areas, it would be better to reduce the expenses by practicing austerity. Chairman Senate also thanked all the parliamentary leaders for agreeing to the proposal.
