Senate of Pakistan pays rich tribute to the courage & sacrifice of the people of IIOJK


ISLAMABAD, August 05 (SABAH): The Senate of Pakistan has paid rich tribute to the courage and sacrifice of the people of Illegally Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

The Senate started its session at the Parliament House in Islamabad on Monday with Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani the chair.

The resolution was moved by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Parliamentary leader Senator Barrister Syed Ali Zafar.

The resolution rejected India’s unilateral and illegal actions since 5th August 2019 and expressed grave concerns over the continued attempts aimed at changing the demographic structure and political landscape of Indian Occupied Kashmir.

Noting that the fifth of August is annually observed as “Youm-e-Istehsal” , following India’s illegal and unilateral actions of 5 August , 2019 to further consolidate its control over Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). The resolution expresses solidarity with the oppressed Kashmiri people in their just struggle for the realization of their right to self-determination.

The resolution recalled that the Jammu and Kashmir dispute remains on the oldest unresolved international disputes on the United Nations’ agenda. Mindful of numerous United Nations Security Council resolutions on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute adopted since 1948, the resolution said.

The resolution reaffirmed Pakistan’s unstinting moral, diplomatic and political support to the Kashmiri people’s struggle for the realization of their right to self-determination. The resolution pays rich tribute to the courage and sacrifices of the people of IIOJK.

The resolution reiterates its rejection of India’s unilateral and illegal actions since 5 Aug 2019 and expresses grave concerns over the continued attempts, aimed at changing the demographic structure and political landscape of IIOJK;

The resolution emphasizes that any political process, subservient to the Indian Constitution, cannot be a substitute to the exercise of the right to self-determination by the people of Jammu and Kashmir as enshrined in the relevant UNSC Resolutions;

The resolution expresses serious concern over the presence of hundreds of thousands of Indian forces that has turned the IIOJK into one of the most militarized regions of the world.

The resolution condemns the decades of continuous oppression, torture, arrest, rapes, genocide and killings of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, the excessive and disproportionate use of force by Indian forces in IIOJK resulting in the loss of countless lives, injuries and widespread destruction and the flagrant violations of human rights and international law;

The resolution denounces the illegal and forcible dispossession of the people of Kashmir from their own land and the repeal of articles 35-A and 370 of the Indian constitution which is contrary to UN resolutions and international law.

The resolution deplores the impunity with which the Indian forces continue their human rights violations in IIOJK, under draconian laws that defy the norms of justice;

The resolution rejects the irresponsible statements of the Indian leaders regarding Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, threatening regional peace and stability; and reaffirms the unshakable resolve of the Pakistani nation to thwart any aggressive act;

The resolution demands that India must release the Kashmiri political prisoners; halt the ongoing human rights violations; and earnestly implement the relevant UN Security Council Resolutions so as to enable the Kashmiri people to determine their future through the democratic method of a fair and impartial plebiscite under UN auspices.

The resolution demands that the human rights of the population of IIOJK be respected, protected and promoted. The resolution confirms that we will continue to raise our voices against injustice and oppression until the Kashmiri people achieve their inalienable right to self-determination.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Amir Muqam said today the entire Pakistani nation overwhelmingly supported the Kashmir cause by participating in events organized in the length and breadth of the country in connection with Youm-e-Istehsal.

Meanwhile the Senate of Pakistan has unanimously passed a resolution, expressing profoundest grief and sorrow on the martyrdom of eminent Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in an attack by Israeli Zionist in Tehran.

The resolution, moved by Palwasha Mohammad Zai Khan, also condemned the human rights violations and unprovoked bombing of Israel in Beirut and the recent killing of 250 innocent civilians in Palestine in addition to thousands of others.

It said Israel is morphing into an international criminal and terrorist entity that is attacking Muslim Nations with impunity.

The Senate of Pakistan strongly recommended that all countries, Organization of Islamic Cooperation and particularly Muslim countries unite to counter and restrain Israeli’s terrorist agenda and ensure lifting of siege of Gaza to provide immediate assistance to the starving and injured civilians and halting of bombing at Gaza on immediate basis. 

The House has also passed a unanimous resolution, expressing solidarity with the oppressed Kashmiri people in their just struggle for realization of right to self-determination. The House will now meet tomorrow (Tuesday) evening.
