Senate Committee discusses Senator Irfan Siddiqui’s missing bill, seeks reports

ISLAMABAD, Sep 28 (SABAH): A Senate Committee on Thursday sought reports from the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs and Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) over Senator Irfan Siddiqui’s bill that went missing after approval of both houses of the parliament.

The committee, which met with Senator Mohsin Aziz in the chair, discussed the issue of the missing bill and directed the concerned departments to submit a report within one week. “We will thoroughly investigate the matter,” Senator Mohsin Aziz said during the meeting.

Senator Irfan Siddiqui apprised the committee about the missing bill through a letter. He told the committee that the Code of Criminal Procedure (Amendment) Act 2022 bill passed by both houses but has been unaccounted for over the past fifteen months. “This is a mockery of the procedure and insult to the entire parliament,” he said.

He stated that the Bill aiming to curtail the judicial powers of Islamabad district administration officers has vanished after being submitted to the Prime Minister’s office by the Parliamentary Affairs Division for the President’s approval on June 21, 2022.

Senator Irfan Siddiqui stated that the President’s House has clarified that no such Bill has been received.

The committee unanimously decided to seek reports from the concerned officials and to take further action once the reports were submitted.
