Seminar titled ‘The Kashmir Dispute: Deconstructing India’s Illegal Strategy on the Abrogation of Article 370’ held at University of Poonch, Rawalakot


RAWALAKOT, August 05 (SABAH): The Institute of Multi-Track Diplomacy, Dialogue, and Development Studies, in collaboration with the University of Poonch, Rawalakot, hosted a seminal seminar titled “The Kashmir Dispute: Deconstructing India’s Illegal Strategy on the Abrogation of Article 370.” The event took place in the university’s grand hall and gathered scholars, students, and community members to delve into the critical issue of Kashmir’s special status and its repercussions.

Dr. Waleed Rasool, a prominent expert on Kashmir affairs, delivered an insightful keynote address. He provided a thorough analysis of India’s abrogation of Article 370, which revoked Jammu and Kashmir’s special autonomy. Dr. Rasool characterized the move as an act of aggression and a violation of international law. He highlighted the unilateral nature of the decision and its role in escalating tensions in the region, undermining the rights of the Kashmiri people. During his address, Dr. Rasool also presented his book, Verdict Odyssey, which offers a discourse analysis of the Indian Supreme Court’s rulings on Article 370. He emphasized the importance of international solidarity, calling for a concerted effort to advocate for the restoration of Kashmir’s special status and the protection of human rights

Dr. Raouf’s Speech:

Dr. Raouf, an esteemed academic expanded on the discussion by providing a broader geopolitical perspective. He discussed the historical and strategic importance of Article 370, noting how its abrogation changes the political dynamics of South Asia.  Dr. Raouf also questioned the audience about their knowledge of history and urged them to use social media for the greater cause of advocating for Kashmir, rather than for trivial pursuits.

Dr. Jawad Zareen also addressed the audience, contributing to the nuanced discussion on the Kashmir issue. He provided additional insights into the complexities of the situation, emphasizing the need for a multidimensional approach to understanding and addressing the dispute. Dr. Zareen underscored the importance of academic and civil society engagement in highlighting the plight of the Kashmiri people and advocating for their rights on international platforms. The seminar concluded with a vote of thanks from the university administration, expressing gratitude to the distinguished speakers and participants for their valuable insights. The administration reaffirmed its commitment to promoting awareness and dialogue on critical regional issues. They announced plans to organize future events to further explore the complexities of the Kashmir issue, aiming to deepen the understanding of the youth and the broader community. The event served as an enlightening platform for discussion, underscoring the necessity for continued efforts to achieve justice and peace in the region.
