Seminar at King Abdullah Campus explores economic challenges, way forward
MUZAFFARABAD, Sep 28 (SABAH): Kashmir Institute of Economics (KIE), University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (UAJK) in collaboration with the Center for International Strategic Studies (CISS) AJK, successfully organized a dynamic seminar titled “Reforms in Pakistan: Now or Never.” Held at CISS, King Abdullah Campus, this insightful event brought together distinguished economists and experts to explore the critical need for reforms in Pakistan’s economic, social, and institutional domains.
The seminar held on Thursday, featured renowned speakers who shared their valuable insights and recommendations for addressing Pakistan’s economic challenges. Distinguished guests included Prof. Dr. Nadeem ul Haq, Vice-Chancellor of the Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE); Dur e Nayab, Pro-Vice Chancellor of PIDE; and Prof. Dr. Muhammad Kaleem Abbasi, Vice-Chancellor of UAJK. Dr. Samina Sabir, Coordinator of KIE, extended a warm welcome to the participants, while Dr. Jamil skillfully moderated the proceedings.
During the seminar, the engaging discussions centered on identifying the root causes of Pakistan’s economic challenges and proposing a comprehensive approach to reforms. The speakers emphasized that emigration is not the solution to the nation’s problems; rather, the focus should be on reforming the existing system. They stressed the significance of investment in job creation beyond the real estate sector and advocated for entrepreneurship as a viable alternative to job dependency.
In his closing remarks, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Kaleem Abbasi expressed gratitude to the guest speakers from PIDE for their invaluable insights. He encouraged the youth to become champions of reform, highlighting that the younger generation possesses the potential to uplift the country. Dr. Abbasi called for the identification of shortcomings, an acute awareness of their consequences, and vocal advocacy for change within the system. Additionally, he proposed a solution to the pressing issue of unemployment through skill-based education, emphasizing the need for aligning education with the demands of the job market.
Dr. Shahid Hameed of CISS extended heartfelt thanks to the guest speakers and participants for their active involvement in the seminar. Together, they explored the imperative need for economic reforms in Pakistan and highlighted the pivotal role of the youth in driving this transformation.
