Second round of talks: Agreed to continue talks, Govt technical committee agreed with our points: Liaqat Baloch
RAWALPINDI, July 31 (SABAH): The second round of negotiations between the government and Jamaat-e-Islami took place at the commissioner’s office in Rawalpindi.
Jamaat-e-Islami has presented a 9-point charter of demand. During the negotiations, Jamaat-e-Islami expressed its determination to continue the peaceful sit-in, while the government committee said that we also want electricity, gasoline to be cheap, and will try to end the tax on the salaried while negotiations would be continued.
Speaking to the media after the talks, Jamaat-e-Islami leader Liaqat Baloch said that today was the second round of our talks, they do not disagree on any of our points. He said Jamaat-e-Islami will not disappoint the people of the country, the peaceful sit-in is going on in Rawalpindi. He said workers and businessmen are all standing with us, adding incidents of terrorism are also increasing in the country. Liaqat Baloch, while talking to the media persons, said that the second round of negotiations took place today, and the dignified sit-in continues on Murree Road for the sixth day. Yes, people are there for national purposes in hot sun and rains, he added.
He said the sit-in has the support of the nation, adding there is a constitutional and parliamentary crisis in the country. He said people are worried about terrorism, adding Jamaat-e-Islami has prioritized the national agenda and the sit-in is ongoing. He added we clearly said that the people cannot pay the electricity bills. Liaqat Baloch said that people are getting frustrated with the constitution, democracy and the future of the country, the government asked us to negotiate and we accepted the offer.
