SC once again plays role in strengthening democracy & rule of law: Law Minister
ISLAMABAD, July 14 (SABAH): Minister for Law and Justice Senator Chaudhry Azam Nazeer Tarar Advocate said on Thursday that Supreme Court of Pakistan has once again played its role in strengthening democracy and rule of law in the country through its latest judgment in the suo motu case of National Assembly deputy speaker’s ruling.
He was addressing a press conference along with Prime Minister’s Adviser on Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Chaudhry Qamar Zaman Kaira here in Islamabad.
Azam Nazeer Tarar said that apex court in its detailed judgment has declared the ruling of deputy speaker National Assembly as unconstitutional and mala-fide.
He said the apex court also rejected the foreign conspiracy narrative of Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan thus laying it to rest forever.
The minister for law said this is the unanimous verdict by five judges of the apex court while two judges added to the judgment saying that violation of Article 5 of the Constitution regarding loyalty to state and Constitution has been proved.
Speaking on the occasion, Kaira said that Imran Khan is constantly lying to the nation. Regarding conspiracy against the PTI government, he said that PTI should have presented proofs in this regard as it was ruling at that time, but it didn’t provide anything in favour of its claims. “Khan’s lies stand exposed now. PTI’s theory of foreign conspiracy is in fact conspiracy against democracy and democratic institutions of the country,” he added.
While replying to a question in connection with launching a campaign against the military institutions, Kaira said each and everyone knows about it who has been continuously blaming institutions, adding that Pakistan Peoples Party has always talked about the supremacy of the law and Constitution.
Moreover, if the Commission is constituted as per the wish of Khan, Kaira said, even then he will not accept its decisions.
To a question government’s initiative of lowering petrol prices ahead of bye-elections in Punjab, he said that the government has taken the decision for the good of all the people of country, not just for those of just 20 constituencies.
To another question, that why the government has not lowered the petrol price even after the passage of two weeks that its price decreased in the international market, Kaira said, that petrol price is changed after 15 days or after a whole month, not after one or two days.
