Samina Alvi reiterates call for spreading more awareness about breast cancer


ISLAMABAD, Oct 29 (SABAH): First Lady Begum Samina Alvi reiterated the call for spreading more awareness about breast cancer. She noted that according to doctors most of the cancer patients who visited hospitals suffered from breast cancer which was a very alarming situation. She added that nobody in the world knew how breast cancer developed. The First Lady regretted that they were yet to do the required work pertaining to differently abled persons. 

She said this while in an interview with the state-rub TV channel. Begum Samina Arif Alvi added that she still felt weakness owing to her contraction with coronavirus and that COVID-19 was such a dangerous disease that she still wondered how she became infected despite observing all precautionary measures. 

She hailed media for playing important role in spreading awareness about breast cancer. She felt astonished while discussing that after every 13 minutes a woman was diagnosed with breast cancer. The first lady urged public to be very careful about the disease and that brothers and husbands ought to take intensive care of female family members and a doctor must instantly be consulted to if they developed any small symptom of the disease. 

Begum Samina Alvi advised that women should get themselves checked and seek guidance from YouTube. She questioned as to why they were not giving due attention to breast cancer when doctors repeatedly warned about worldwide spread of the deadly disease. She noted that young girls were being diagnosed with breast cancer in Pakistan. 

Begum Samina Alvi urged women to take care of their diet and undertake walk. Moreover, no censorship could be done pertaining to spreading awareness about breast cancer as it was part of human body, she added. Begum Samina Alvi added that every time they organize a program regarding spreading awareness about the disease, women took keen interest and asked questions as to where they could go to seek awareness and treatment. She praised media for providing large-scale awareness about the disease. 

According to a survey about handicapped persons conducted by World Health Organization (WHO), there were 12-14% handicapped people in Pakistan who were hardly visible and that it seemed that they had concealed statistics about special persons, she remarked. The First Lady noted that handicapped people were facilitated in foreign countries so that they made room for wheel chairs in their vehicle. She gave reference to a protest of the handicapped people in Lahore and felt astonished when she came to know that the president of the organization, which organized the protest, was an M.Phil scholar. She questioned as why that scholar was unfit for a job if he had the capability to get higher education. The added that she often quarreled with her husband to increase pace of work on handicapped persons.
