Relief activities of Alkhidmat Foundation ongoing throughout Pakistan including Sindh, Balochistan, KP, 645 flood victims rescued
RAWALPINDI, August 30 (SABAH): Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan’s Disaster Management Department is carrying out relief activities in areas affected by rains and floods across Pakistan. Rescue and relief items have been delivered to the disaster centers established at the central, regional, district levels, from where they are being supplied to the victims.
Food, food packages, tents, mosquito nets and other relief materials are being provided to the victims. 645 people were rescued from rain and flooded areas while 1603 victims were provided medical aid and free medicines in the medical camps established by Alkhidmat Foundation.
In the online meeting under the chairmanship of Central Vice President and Chairman Alkhidmat Disaster Management Ejazullah Khan, the ongoing relief activities were reviewed and planning for the future was done. He said all the resources and capabilities would be utilized to deal with the natural calamities and added Alkhidmat volunteers are our capital who risk their lives to help people in distress without discrimination.
Earlier, Department of Disaster Management Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan organized a two-day disaster management training workshop for volunteers in DMC Rawalpindi in collaboration with United Nations organization OCHA. Head of Coordination Unit OCHA UN Farida Kasuyo and National Director Alkhidmat Disaster Management Fazl Mahmood participated in the closing session of the training and appreciated the spirit of the participating volunteers.
Speaking on this occasion, Fazl Mahmood said that Alkhidmat Foundation is fully committed to deal with climate change and natural disasters. He said in view of the recent rains and floods, teams in central, regional and district across Pakistan are high alert and relief activities are ongoing in flood-affected areas.
He said that the Alkhidmat Foundation till now has completed training of 3000 volunteers, adding 10000 volunteers will be trained to deal with disasters. He said that DMC is organizing six training workshops of this series in Rawalpindi, Lahore, Peshawar, Quetta, Karachi, and Gilgit-Baltistan, in which regional and district volunteers will participate.
Noman Tahir, Head of Information Management Unit OCHA in Pakistan conducted various training sessions for the volunteers and in the practical exercise of the second day, the participants were trained in different groups and trained in practical disaster prevention measures.
