Qaiser Ahmad Sheikh says he will ensure cooperation from all foreign investors including Malaysia
ISLAMABAD, Oct 05 (SABAH): A meeting was held on the progress of foreign investment in the maritime sector under the chairmanship of Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Qaiser Ahmad Sheikh.
Representatives of Malaysian companies (Felda Global Ventures and KLK Malaysia) and Pakistani company Westbury Group also participated in this meeting. All these companies are already working with the ports of Pakistan. Malaysian companies reiterated to expand their business through Pakistan’s ports.
On this occasion, Qaiser Ahmad Sheikh said that he will ensure cooperation from all foreign investors including Malaysia. He said that Port Qasim Authority, Karachi Port Trust and other institutions of Ministry of Maritime Affairs are trying to solve the problems of importers and exporters. He added that as a minister, my office is always open for investors; if the foreign investors are facing any kind of hurdle then he can be contacted. In the same week, a memorandum of understanding was also signed with the Danish government through which Maersk will invest two billion dollars in Pakistan’s maritime sector. This is proof that foreign investors are showing confidence in Pakistan.
Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh further said that the success of CPEC is also connected with our ports. Upgradation of all ports including Gwadar and Karachi is in progress. The federal minister thanked the representatives of the multinational companies for attending the meeting and said that they were very happy with the visit of the Prime Minister of Malaysia. It is hoped that the two countries will cooperate with each other in every sector including maritime.
