PWF commemorates the International Workers Memorial Day 2023

ISLAMABAD, April 27 (SABAH): On International Workers Memorial Day 2023 Pakistan Workers Federation(PWF) remember and honor those who have been injured or killed in the workplace and express solidarity for their families and loved ones. This year’s theme, No More Killing: Occupational Safety and Health is a fundamental right highlight’s the pressing requirement that all workers have access to safe and healthy workplace.

Chaudhry Muhammad Yaseen, General Secretary of PWF, stated that “workers are the backbone of our economy and their well-being is essential to the success of our country.” “We must make sure that no worker has to worry about getting hurt or losing their life while at work. We honor those who have lost their lives while working on this International Workers’ Memorial Day and reaffirm our commitment to campaigning for better working conditions for all Workers.

The International Labour Organization (ILO) estimates that each year, millions of workers worldwide have diseases and injuries related to working conditions and that thousands of them pass away. The situation appears particularly bad in Pakistan, where many workers are subjected to unsafe working conditions, poor security protocols, and a lack of access to PPE’s.

On this International Workers’ Memorial Day, we remember those who have lost their lives on the job, and we honor their memory by fighting for safer working conditions for all workers, said” Ch. Abdul Rehman Aasi Chairman PWF. “We call on the government and employers to take concrete steps to protect workers’ lives and rights. We also urge workers to join us in this fight by speaking up about safety concerns and demanding their right to a safe and healthy workplace.”

In Pakistan, a sizable portion of the workforce is employed in the unorganized, mainly unregulated informal sector, which lacks basic health and safety standards. Workers in textile and agriculture industries, among others, are exposed to dangerous chemicals and other environmental dangers, which are causing major diseases and other long-term health impacts.

The Pakistan Workers Federation (PWF) is a strong voice for worker health and safety despite the many obstacles. PWF play a critical role in ensuring safer and healthier workplaces for everyone in the workforce via their collective bargaining, lobbying, and education initiatives.

Concerning occupational health and safety concerns in Pakistan, which demand quick attentions to establish and place into effect rules and regulations that safeguard the health and safety of all workers, the government, Employers, and PWF must collaborate in a tripartite mechanism. To safeguard their safety and well-being, workers should have access to healthcare, personal protection equipment, and trainings. Child Labour must be eliminated and workers should have the ability to report hazards to safety and request reforms to working conditions.

The Federation is dedicated to defending workers’ rights and making sure that each Worker has access to a secure and healthy workplace.
