PTI govt completely destroyed the economy & weaken the institutions: Sirajul Haq

MULTAN, Nov 13 (SABAH): Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Emir Sirajul Haq has said the ruling elite is engaged in politics of self-interest, having nothing to do with the public interest.

“They [ruling elite] are now busy in a number game in Islamabad. Some want to oust the government other make efforts for its survival. But I want to clear it again that they all belong to same class as their interests and policies are same. They all remain parts of either governments or opposition for decades and they never paid heed to the miseries of the masses,” Sirajul Haq said while addressing Multan District Bar Association here on Saturday.

“Jamaat-e-Islami has decided to stay away from the politics of status quo. We want people, lawyers to back the JI struggle to transform Pakistan into an Islamic welfare state.” Sirajul Haq said some political parties had held the flag of democracy but they were itself alien to democratic practices. They, he added, never introduced democracy within their parties. He said, he therefore had put the suggestion before the Election Commission of Pakistan to declare ineligible for taking part in general election those parties who were not agreeing to hold intra-party elections under the ECP. Paying tribute to the long struggle of lawyer community for restoration of democracy and rule of law, he regretted the goal had not achieved yet.

“We need to change the status quo. We need to change the system,” he said, adding a peaceful mass democratic struggle was the way forward for it. The JI chief said the PTI made tall claims to bring real change but it failed to do so in three years. Despite passing three years in government, the PTI failed to fix the basic problems, he added.

Sirajul Haq said the PTI government completely destroyed the economy and weaken the institutions. The VIP culture was still plaguing the country, he added. He said the people must recognize their real enemies now who were feudal lords and corrupt imperialists. He said the country needed a real change and the option was only Jamaat-e-Islami to make this change happen. The JI Emir was in Mutlan on a three-day tour of the city and addressed different ceremonies on second day of his visit on Saturday.
