Previous govts neglected national interests whilst framing development planning: PM Imran Khan
ISLAMABAD, Feb 23 (SABAH): Prime Minister Imran Khan has directed to complete framework for development planning at the earliest and ensure its implementation on priority basis.
Chairing a meeting in Islamabad, PM Imran Khan said it is first time that the country is introducing an export development based strategy.
He regretted that previous governments neglected national interests whilst framing development planning.
The Prime Minister pointed out that capable human resource, tourism and overseas Pakistanis’ investors are very important for the development of the country.
The Prime Minister said the government is taking steps for the development of industries to provide job opportunities and bolster exports.
PM Imran Khan said our foreign missions abroad are further being made functional so that they could play their role for enhancing the country’s exports.
The Ministry of Planning and Development, on the occasion, gave a detailed briefing to the Prime Minister about the reforms being introduced in the procedure of development planning.
It was informed that the reforms focused on giving prominence to the development of export and industrial sector, provision of jobs and increase in per capita income.
The meeting was informed that new sectors in the export industry including information technology, automobile and tourism will be encouraged.
It was further informed that the direction of country will be shifted from import to export-oriented development.
The meeting was informed that both long and short term targets will be determined during the planning phase and these will also be reviewed and amended annually keeping in view the situation at the domestic and international level.
It was also informed that coordination amongst the ministries will be ensured during the planning phase.
