President Alvi approves appointment of Mansoor Usman Awan as Attorney General of Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Dec 23, (SABAH): President Dr. Arif Alvi has approved the appointment of Advocate Supreme Court of Pakistan Mansoor Usman Awan as Attorney General of Pakistan (AGP).

He accorded the approval under Article 100 of the Constitution. President Dr. Arif Alvi also accepted resignation of Ashtar Ausaf Ali from the post of Attorney General of Pakistan.

Earlier, Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif approved Mr Usman’s name for the post. The development comes as a political crisis is brewing in Punjab where Governor Engineer Mian Muhammad Balighur Rehman has denotified Chaudhry Parvez Elahi as Punjab chief minister.

Parvez Elahi has challenged his denotification in the Lahore High Court (LHC), arguing that the governor had not written any letter to him about the vote of confidence.
