President Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan Muhammad Abdul Shakoor meets UN Secretary General António Guterres
ISLAMABAD, Sep 10 (SABAH): President Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan Muhammad Abdul Shakoor and representatives of other relief organizations and business personalities held meeting with United Nations Secretary General António Guterres at Serena Hotel Islamabad.
Muhammad Abdul Shakoor informed UN Secretary General António Guterres about the deteriorating situation of the flood affected areas of Pakistan and also informed him about the relief activities being carried out by Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan. While talking about 33 million Pakistani people affected from the flood, Muhammad Abdul Shakoor informed António Guterres that this number is times more than the whole population of Portugal (it is worth mentioning here that UN Secretary General António Guterres hails from Portugal).
Muhammad Abdul Shakoor said that Alkhidmat Foundation is carrying out relief and rescue activities in all four provinces and is providing cooked food, clean drinking water, dried ration, tents and medical facilities at large scale. He said that Alkhidmat Foundation is a countywide organization and its many thousand volunteers are busy in rescue and relief work. He said that a large number of Pakistani doctors are also busy in providing medical facilities to the flood affectees.
Muhammad Abdul Shakoor said that he appreciates timely visit of António Guterres to Pakistan and he is hopeful that UN Secretary General after personally reviewing the flood situation in Pakistan will convince the international community in more effective way for provision of financial help to the flood affectees of Pakistan.
UN Secretary General said that Pakistanis are a brave nation and this he knew from a long time ago when he was United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and was used to visit Pakistan. UN Secretary General promised to enthusiastically run the campaign for the flood affectees of Pakistan and said that he closely witnessed the commitment, courage and generosity of the Pakistani nation. He said that if Pakistani nation succeeds in resolving its political matters then there are bright chances of it becoming a great nation. This meeting continued nearly for an hour in the Serena Hotel.
