Present govt aims to minimize burden of rising prices on the lower segment of society: Miftah Ismail 


ISLAMABAD, June 23 (SABAH): Minister for Finance and Revenue Dr. Miftah Ismail Ahmed has reaffirmed government’s commitment to provide maximum relief to the people from continuously rising prices especially to the poor.

Presiding over a meeting on PM Relief Package through Utility Stores Corporation in Islamabad on Thursday, Miftah Ismail stressed that present government aims to minimize the burden of rising prices on the lower segment of the society.

He directed the concerned ministries to work out on the proposals for targeted subsidy, in context of financial and subsidy impact, as per vision of the Prime Minister to support the lower strata of the society.

On the directions of the Prime Minister to provide immediate and substantial relief package to lower segments of the society through targeted subsidy, the Finance Minister invited the participants to present the pragmatic, highly effective and targeted subsidy proposals, in line with the vision of the Prime Minister.

The Federal Minister for Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety Shazia Atta Marri and Federal Minister for Industries and Production Syed Murtaza Mahmud shared various proposals for harmonization of multiple subsidies under one umbrella for better allocation of resources on household basis rather than individual basis.

Meanwhile Finance Minister Miftah Ismail has said the government is providing incentives for expansion of the IT and the telecom sectors, and related exports.

Presiding over a meeting on the tax related issues of IT and telecom sector in Islamabad on Thursday, he acknowledged the role of IT and Telecommunication in overall economic development of the country.

The Minister assured that the government will extend all possible support to resolve issues pertaining to various taxes on IT and Telecom sectors for ease of doing business and facilitation of both the sectors in exports.

Minister for IT and Telecommunication Syed Amin-ul-Haq, Secretary IT & Telecom, Chairman PTA, Chairman FBR and other senior officers also attended the meeting.
