PPP, PTI & PML-N fielded candidates contesting for around 8 to 9 out of every 10 seats in 2018 elections: Gallup Pakistan
ISLAMABAD, Sep 13 (SABAH): Gallup Pakistan has said that the 2018 general elections were contested for 270 general seats in the National Assembly.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Gallup Pakistan said that the three most prominent political parties, Pakistan People’s Party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz fielded candidates contesting for around 8 to 9 out of every 10 seats.
PPP and PTI fielded candidates for the greatest proportion of general seats in the parliament, 91% and 90% respectively. PML-N fielded candidates vying for 71% of the general seats from across the country, while MMA fielded candidates for 71% of these. Candidates from AAT (Allah-o-Akbar Tehreek), ANP (Awami National Party), and PSP (Pak Sarzameen Party) all stood for a quarter, or less of these seats, contesting around 1 in every 4 or 5 seats.
According to the statement issued by Gallup Pakistan, this press release is part of a special series that aims to provide the readers interesting findings from Gallup Pakistan’s electoral database. The database of the past 11 elections has been consolidated from the Elections Commission of Pakistan (ECP) data by Gallup Pakistan’s Data Analytics team and analyzed over the past many years under the able leadership of Dr. Ijaz Shafi Gilani, a political scientist by training from MIT USA.
Gallup Pakistan and Gilani Research Foundation have been working in various projects and activities for the past 40 years which aim to popularize use of facts and figures to understand Pakistani society and the complex behavioral and sociological ties that run underneath.
This particular press release provides an overview of Pakistan’s 2018 general elections in terms of facts and figures. The need for this arises as we slowly move towards the 12th general election in Pakistan since 1970.
