Politics remained hot topic in TV programmes during Dec 2022: reveals Gallup & Gilani Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Jan 26 (SABAH): Political talk shows play an important role in creating awareness and shaping perceptions of its viewers. Therefore, it is imperative for them to be impartial to paint the true picture. One interesting addition that Gallup & Gilani Pakistan has made to this publication is the mapping of appearance of guests on six talk shows. This is done to record any bias with respect to political contribution that may prevail in the media by inviting the same few faces over and over again.

Key insights for December 2022 are as follows. Most of the topics discussed were related to politics taking 71% of the whole Programmes followed by Economy (11%). Some of the main topics discussed in the last month were “Punjab and KPK Assembly Dissolution”, “Current   political   situation in Punjab”, “Criticism on Gen. Bajwa”; and PTI (71%) and PPP (30%) were the top two parties which appeared most frequently among 11 parties

Total number of Programmes monitored were six; total number of unique guests appeared in these Programmes were 154; and total number of repeated guests appeared in these Programmes were 267.

Fawad Chaudhry (8%) and Ather Kazmi (5%) were the top two guests who appeared most frequently in all the   Programmes; Programme with the highest appearance of unique guests was 11th hour with a total count of 46; appearance of PTI was highest on ARY (93%). Likewise, appearance of PML-N and PPP was highest on SAMAA (94%) and ARY news (46%) respectively.
