PM Shehbaz takes notice of power breakdown in the country


ISLAMABAD, Jan 23 (SABAH): Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has taken notice of the power breakdown in the country.

According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister Office, the Prime Minister constituted a high-level committee for investigation into the matter.

PM Shehbaz Sharif also sought report from the Minister for Energy Engineer Khurram Dastgir Khan in this regard.

Expressing his annoyance, he said it should be apprised as to why such a big breakdown of electricity took place in the country. The Prime Minister directed to immediately restore the power supply.
Meanwhile the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), in a statement, also said that it has taken “serious notice” of the power outage and directed the NTDC to submit a “detailed report”.

The statement also said that the regulator has previously imposed fines on similar outages in 2021 and 2022. It also shared that NEPRA has consistently issued directives and recommendations on tackling such events in future.
