PM Shehbaz should resolve the issue of forcedly disappeared persons on priority basis: Amina Masood Janjua


ISLAMABAD, April 12 (SABAH): Chairperson Defense of Human Rights Pakistan Amina Masood Janjua while congratulating Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on election as prime minister of the country has expressed the hope that he will take steps on priority basis to resolve the issue of forcedly disappeared persons.

Amina Masood Janjua said that PM Shehbaz Sharif is well aware about this important issue of the human rights, adding that in 2008 he had invited over 100 affected families in Lahore at his residence and had burst into tears after listening the stories of the affected families of the forcedly disappeared persons for hours. She said that Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif had ensured the recovery of the forcedly disappeared persons. Amina Masood Janjua said that we are hopeful that Shehbaz Sharif will not disappoint the mothers, sisters, daughters and widows waiting for justice from last many years.

Amina Masood Janjua said that the performance of the commission formed for the recovery of the missing persons is zero, adding that this commission is even not able to got implemented its own production orders. She said that this commission could not stop the process of forced disappearances and also could not punish the officials involved in forced disappearances. She said that the commission formed under the chairmanship of Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal should immediately be abolished. She said that the heirs of the disappeared persons are struggling for last many years for the recovery of their near and dear ones, adding that the heirs will continue their struggle for abolition of the heinous tradition of forced disappearance and till the recovery of the last missing person.
