PM Shehbaz expresses satisfaction over the record wheat production of 20.75 million metric tons in the country


LAHORE, April 30 (SABAH): Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has expressed satisfaction over record wheat production of 20.75 million metric tons in the country.

Chairing a meeting on purchase of wheat at the official level in Lahore, PM Shehbaz Sharif said despite rains and floods last year, the bumper crop of wheat is a testament to the government’s timely decisions and excellent governance.

The Prime Minister directed the relevant provincial and federal departments to buy wheat directly from the farmers, so that the farmers get full benefit.

He also directed to ensure timely purchase of wheat and to take strict action against hoarders.

The Prime Minister asked the relevant institutions to increase their wheat procurement target in order to ensure uninterrupted wheat supply throughout the year.

He said required resources for obtaining specified quantity of wheat should be provided through banks.

PM Shehbaz Sharif said the government is preparing a strategy for next year to further increase wheat production in the country. PM Shehbaz Sharif said that due to the maladministration of the incapable previous government Pakistan became the wheat importing country. He said that the previous government forced the farmers to stand in queues for whole day for the purchase of urea fertilizer. He said that federal and provincial departments should purchase the wheat directly from the farmers so that the farmers could be fully benefited.

PM Shehbaz Sharif said that the provincial and federal departments should enhance the target of the purchase of the wheat so that uninterrupted wheat supply to the people of the country could be ensured for whole year. PM said that strict action should be ensured against the hoarders. He said that all the officers should ensure timely purchase of wheat. PM Shehbaz Sharif directed that the required resources for the purchase of the wheat should be provided through banks.

The meeting was attended by Minister for National Food Security and Research Chaudhry Tariq Bashir Cheema, Advisor to PM on Establishment Ahad Khan Cheema, SAPM on Finance Tariq Bajwa, caretaker provincial minister for industries Punjab S. M. Tanveer and other concerned officials.
