PHC adjourns hearing of case relating to KPK Assembly elections till May 4

PESHAWAR, April 19 (SABAH): The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has adjourned hearing of case relating to holding elections of KPK Assembly till May 04.

While hearing the case on Wednesday, Justice Muhammad Ibrahim Khan remarked that they would issue a verdict on the matter after hearing of the case on May 04.

Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) also sought further time for submitting the reply and the court adjourned hearing of the case till May 04.

Advocate General KPK argued that reply from the provincial government was ready while the date has to announced by the governor and the ECP.

A two-member bench headed by Justice Muhammad Ibrahim Khan and comprising Justice Abdul Shakoor conducted hearing on a petition filed by PA speaker Mushtaq Ghani to seek date for election of KP Assembly.

During the hearing of the case, Barrister Gohar Ali Khan appeared on behalf of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) while Advocate General KPK Amir Javed appeared on behalf of the government.

Despite the issuance of the notice, ECP failed in submitting the reply and sought further time in this regard.

PTI’s counsel objected to the ECP lawyer’s application while arguing that tenure of interim government had expired on April 17 but neither governor nor ECP gave date of holding elections.

To this, advocate general said that the reply was ready; however, fixing date for elections lies in the responsibilities of governor and ECP. The court adjourned hearing of the case till May 04.
