Pakistan is facing losses of more than $40 billion due to floods: PM Shehbaz


ISLAMABAD, Nov 04, (SABAH): The United Nations has reiterated its full support to Pakistan in rehabilitation of flood affected people in the country.

The support was expressed by United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator Julien Harneis during his meeting with Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad on Friday.   

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif informed the UN coordinator about the worst floods in the history of Pakistan due to climate change and its permanent effects on the lives of the people.

Highlighting the government’s rescue, relief and rehabilitation measures, the Prime Minister said Pakistan which is already struggling with economic problems, is facing losses of more than 40 billion dollars due to floods.                                        

He thanked UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, who not only visited Pakistan’s flood-affected areas, but also became the voice of Pakistanis all over the world.         

Expressing sympathy with the Pakistani flood victims, the UN coordinator termed exemplary, the timely rescue and rehabilitation measures by the government.
