Overseas Pakistanis RECORD $4.1 billion remittances a rejection of PTI’s ‘anti-state agenda’: Senator Nasir Butt
ISLAMABAD, April 14 (SABAH): Overseas Pakistanis sent a record $4.1 billion in remittances during March 2024, a milestone that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senator Nasir Butt hailed as a rejection of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party’s “anti-state agenda” and an endorsement of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s economic policies.
Senator Nasir Butt, who chairs the Senate Standing Committee on Housing, claimed the remittance surge—which contributed to a fiscal-year total of $28 billion—reflects expatriates’ confidence in the current government. “Overseas Pakistanis have outrightly rejected the divisive narratives of anti-state elements,” he said, accusing the PTI of undermining national stability.
The PML-N leader linked the financial influx to public disapproval of the PTI, stating, “By sending historic remittances, our diaspora has buried PTI’s destructive politics.” He also announced plans for a government-hosted “Overseas Pakistanis Convention” to recognize expatriates’ contributions and unveil new initiatives aimed at simplifying services for them.
Senator Nasir Butt credited former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s leadership for the PML-N’s “pro-people policies,” asserting that the party remains committed to addressing expatriates’ concerns. “These remittances are not just economic support—they are a political statement in favor of development and against chaos,” he added.
