Opposition’s decision to boycott meeting of Parliamentary Committee on National Security regrettable: Fawad
ISLAMABAD, Dec 03 (SABAH): Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain says the opposition’s decision to boycott the meeting of Parliamentary Committee on National Security is regrettable.
In a tweet on Friday, he said it is for the first time in seven decades that a government is going to present its security policy before the parliament. The Minister said it is not a political issue, but a national security matter. He urged the opposition to review its decision and participate in the meeting.
Meanwhile Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain has reiterated government’s resolve to ensure free and independent media in the country.
Talking to a delegation of Rawalpindi-Islamabad Union of Journalists in Islamabad on Friday, he said there is no defamation law in Pakistan as media enjoys more freedom than other countries.
He said the government is standing with the working journalists, who were neglected by the previous governments.
The Minister said the government passed Protection of Journalists and Media Professionals Act 2021 bill in consultation with all media stockholders.
Chaudhry Fawad Hussain said responsibilities of the government and media houses have increased manifold after this historic legislation.
The delegation lauded the efforts of the government and Information Ministry in passage of such bill.
