Only Parliament has the authority to rewrite the Constitution of Pakistan: Raja Pervez Ashraf
ISLAMABAD, April 29 (SABAH): Speaker National Assembly Raja Pervez Ashraf while addressing a reception in honor of Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) representatives at the Parliament House commended journalistic community of Pakistan for performing their duties in a responsible and thoroughly professional manners.
Media was an important pillar of the country and it had always played an instrumental role for the restoration of democracy in the country. They stood alongside politicians for ensuring the supremacy of the Constitution and the Parliament, Raja Pervez Ashraf added.
The Speaker NA emphasized that the Parliament would continue to play its role in solving all the problems of the journalistic community. The journalists should also continue to do their bid in upholding and maintaining the honor and respect of the Parliament as it belonged to all.
He stressed that the Parliament was the home of 220 million people. There could be no compromise on the supremacy of this Parliament. He underscored that the Constitution was a sacred document and its protection was the responsibility of all of us.
He also expressed his respect for the Supreme Court and stressed upon the importance of avoiding conflicts between institutions for the country’s benefit. He underscored that only Parliament had the authority to re-write/amend the Constitution, if needed.
He also noted that Parliament made a law that three judges should have Sou moto authority instead of one judge, the Supreme Court stopped its implementation.
Furthermore, Raja Pervez Ashraf while highlighting the celebration of the Golden Jubilee of the Constitution said that the invitation to attend the celebrations was extended to representatives from all pillars of the State including judges of the Supreme Court.
Lastly, he called upon all pillars of the State to work for the betterment of Pakistan while remaining in their legal domains, particularly when the country was facing difficulties on various fronts.
