No party could flee from local government elections in Sindh after Supreme Court verdict: Engineer Hafiz Naeemur Rehman


ISLAMABAD, August 17 (SABAH): While hailing Supreme Court of Pakistan verdict of rejecting MQM’s plea against holding second phase of local body polls in Sindh and avoiding any further delay in elections as well as forcing to get the polling undertaken on 28th August, Emir Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi Engineer Hafiz Naeemur Rehman said that by then none of the political parties could escape the local government elections.

“All doors to flee had shut after court’s directions and solution to basic problems of 30 million Karachiites lies only in holding fair and immediate elections. We congratulate people of Hyderabad and Karachi and thank Chief Justice Supreme Court of Pakistan Justice Umar Ata Bandial on the verdict”, the emir expressed.

He expressed these views during conversation with media representatives after attending as a party, the apex court’s hearing on MQM’s plea for delay in elections on Wednesday. Earlier, he participated in the hearing along with President of Public Aid Committee, Saifuddin Advocate and while representing people of Karachi he presented his stance on importance of immediate holding of polls, disorders in voter-lists as well as census related issues. The media coordinator of Jamaat-e-Islami Islamabad Shahid Shamsi and others were also present on the occasion.

While conversing with journalists, Engineer Hafiz Naeemur Rehman expressed gratitude to the honorable court for adhering to the JI’s stand pertaining to NADRA databases, voter lists and drawbacks in census adding the judgment had elevated confidence of the people he represented. While highlighting importance of the Quaid’s city, he emphasized that the city was a mini-Pakistan and a backbone to the country’s economy, adding that Karachi puts share of 54% in national exports and 67% to national revenue and was the biggest taxpayer.

Hafiz Naeemur Rehman added that on the face of its incredible importance, the city had turned into a ruin having pathetic roads and thoroughfares lacking modern transport system. “Women, children and the elderly are forced to travel via qingqi rickshaws”, he underlined. He requested all concerned authorities and media organizations to visit the city to witness the injustice meted out by governments.
