NDMA issues guidance for proactive preparedness & vigilance during Eid-ul-Azha holidays & rains-wind/thunderstorms

ISLAMABAD, June 14 (SABAH): In light of forecasted warmer than average temperatures and chances of rain-wind/thunderstorms during Eid-ul-Azha Holidays (15-19 June), which is likely to extend up to 22 June. Therefore, it is a need to ensure proactive preparedness through enhanced vigilance and mass public awareness. Additional guidance in this regard can be sought from already issued NDMA Tourist Guidelines & Checklist available on NDMA Website.

Furthermore, NDMA has released the “PAK-NDMA Disaster Alert” application on Google Play Store and iOS App Store to provide general public with up-to-date alerts, advisories and hazard specific guidelines, public service messages and more. The forecast indicates that due this weather systems, rain, wind and dust storm and thunderstorm expected in most of country including Khyber Pakhtunkhawa, Gilgit, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, South Punjab and some parts of Sindh in stipulated period of time. In light of above, NDMA advises preparedness for potential floods and landslides, especially in Upper KP, Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, and Gilgit Baltistan. Authorities should ensure readiness to respond to emergencies, with machinery and staff pre-positioned in vulnerable areas.

Citizens are urged to exercise caution, avoid weak structures and waterways, and stay updated on weather conditions while travelling to Northern areas during Eid holidays. Farmers, livestock owners, tourists, and travelers should take protective measures for their safety and property. For ongoing updates, follow local advisories.
