Nawaz says country was dragged into quagmire for taking revenge from him

LONDON, Oct 10 (SABAH): Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo and former prime minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has said that the country was dragged into a quagmire as a result of taking revenge against him.

Nawaz Sharif said this while addressing a press conference along with his daughter and Vice President PML-N Maryam Nawaz Sharif. He said that an elected prime minister was removed for not taking salary from his son and added that the country was dragged into quagmire for taking revenge from him.

He further said the people of Pakistan were contented during the period of PML-N and added those who used to talk about suicide instead knocking the doors of International Monetary Fund (IMF), finally bowed down before it. Prices of each and everything went up during PTI’s period while PML-N didn’t compromise on the dignity of the nation, he explained and said the US offered them Rs 5 billion dollar to stop nuclear tests but they said ‘absolutely not’ to this offer.

Talking about his wife, Begum Kulsoom Nawaz, the PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif went on to say that fun was being made on her illness. He added that this was the first time in a long time that Maryam had met her brothers. “From the day, Maryam came to London, she has been talking to me and her brothers about Kulsoom Nawaz”, he deplored.

Expressing his thoughts over the acquittal of the PML-N vice president in the Avenfield case, Nawaz Sharif said that Maryam has made her way to London by bagging victory. While deeming the cases and sentences against him and Maryam as fake, the PML-N supremo posed the question that if he [Nawaz] was wrong then why he faced everything and appeared before the court? Nawaz also said that his five years of life have been wasted.

“I was in jail and got the news that the National Accountability Court (NAB) wanted to arrest Maryam Nawaz. I don’t think that at time the people concerned with NAB had a feeling of sympathy for Maryam”, the PML-N supremo expressed his thoughts.

He asked, “Why did we suffer these 200-250 [court] appearances. Someone must be accountable. Do I not have the right to ask this? “Can’t I also ask that when Maryam came to meet me in Kot Lakhpat Jail, the jail authorities informed us that NAB had come and wanted to arrest her,” he added.

“This arrest was just done before my eyes to give me pain, otherwise there was no reason for this. Could this arrest not have happened at some other time?” he lamented.

Further talking about Begum Kulsoom Nawaz, the PML-N supremo said, “I appeared before the court when I got the news that Kulsoom Nawaz was ill again. So I asked the superintendent to let me talk with Kulsoom Nawaz. But the superintendent said that he had no permission. So I was not allowed to get an opportunity to talk with Kulsoom and three hours later I was informed that my wife had passed away.”

Nawaz Sharif said, “I went to Maryam’s cell and informed her that Kulsoom had passed away. Soon after getting that news, Maryam started to cry.” The former prime minister said that when Kulsoom was ill, nobody allowed him to go and take care of his wife. While hitting out at the PTI Chairman, Nawaz said that everything he has done, is now being revealed in front of the masses.

To a question on the cases against him allegedly being part of a political vendetta, Nawaz quipped that the question contained the answer itself and referred to the alleged leaked audio clip of former chief justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar regarding Nawaz and Maryam’s trial.

“There is an audio leak and you can’t deny it, its forensic analysis has also been carried out.  Do you need any greater evidence than this? Is there any bigger evidence than the things that judge Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui said?”

Nawaz Sharif lamented that suo moto notices were taken of many issues and said the injustice upon injustice with him for five years should also be looked into. “Who doesn’t know that these were fake and fabricated cases with no weight or evidence?” he questioned.

He alleged that he was punished and disqualified for life to keep him away from elections and yet, today, lifetime disqualification was being criticised as “draconian”. Where is the rectification, Nawaz asked, adding that such matters should be brought before the nation.

Nawaz Sharif claimed that his government had brought economic prosperity, finished load-shedding, increased employment and eliminated terrorism. Nawaz Sharif said that the judges who had committed such injustices should be made accountable for them, adding that today they will find nothing other than shame when they reflect on themselves.

“We will have to hold these people accountable if we want to take Pakistan forward.” To a question about him possibly becoming prime minister for the fourth time, he said, ‘Hopefully.’

Nawaz alleged that Imran had ruined the country’s relations with its allies and other nation, and kept fooling the nation with his absolutely not narrative.

On the Supreme Court disqualifying him as the prime minister in the Panama Papers case, Nawaz Sharif questioned whether there was a valid reason for the decision. “Disqualified for life and removed from the PML-N presidency. This is revenge, not a court’s decision,” he added.

Regarding the recent alleged audio leaks about Imran, Nawaz them up to karma, adding that “the one who plotted has turned out to be the biggest conspirer,” further wondering what else would come to light.
