NAB since its inception has recovered Rs. 822 billion directly & indirectly: Spokesperson
ISLAMABAD, Jan 21 (SABAH): National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has released its performance report since its inception especially excellent performance under the dynamic leadership of Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal, Chairman NAB.
According to a statement issued by NAB spokesperson on Friday, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) was established in 1999 with the mandate to eradicate corruption and recover looted money from corrupt elements. NAB since it’s inception is persistently trying to
eradicate corruption. The remarkable results of those endeavours have started to pour in.
NAB Chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal, after assuming office, formulated National Anti-Corruption Strategy, also recognised as the most effective strategy against corruption. That strategy has started yielding excellent results.
Credible national and international organizations like Transparency International, PILDAT, World Economic Forum and Mashaal Pakistan have expressed full confidence in the NAB’s corruption eradication initiatives.
According to the results of a survey conducted by Gallup & Gilani Pakistan, 59 percent Pakistanis have expressed their satisfaction over the NAB performance.
Under the leadership of Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal – the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has become an active institute as it has directly and indirectly recovered around Rs 539 billion from corrupt elements directly and indirectly in the last more than four years which is a significant achievement as comparing to previous years. Moreover, NAB since its inception has recovered Rs. 822 billion directly and indirectly.
NAB since it’s inception has received a total of 510,729 complaints since its inception out of which 498,256 had been disposed off.
NAB has authorised 16,307 complaint verifications as per law, out of which investigation of 15,475 complaints has been completed. NAB has initiated 10,365 inquiries as per law out of which 9,299 have been completed.
The NAB has authorised 4,707 investigations out of which 4,377 have been completed. NAB has recovered Rs 822 billion directly and indirectly since its inception. NAB has filed as many as 3,772 references in various accountability courts – of which 2,508 references have been decided. Right now some 1,264 corruption references of Rs 1335.019 billion were being heard in various esteemed accountability courts of the country.
The NAB is first Chairman of SAARC Anti-Corruption Forum. NAB has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with China to oversee China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects being completed in Pakistan.
NAB has introduced a new concept of Combine Investigation Team (CIT) in order to benefit from the experience and collective wisdom of senior supervisory officers, hence a system of CIT comprising of a director, additional director, investigation officer and a senior legal counsel has been put in place. This is not only lending quality to the work but also ensuring that no single individual can influence the official proceedings of NAB. In addition to the evidence and documentary evidence, there is a state-of-the-art forensic science lab, as well as digital forensics, questionnaires and fingerprint analysis facilities. NAB’s those measures are its standard.
Apart from monitoring and evaluation system – NAB has also devised a comprehensive quantified grading system to review the annual performance of its regional offices and improve the performance of its officers under the leadership of Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal.
According to NAB’s enforcement strategy, the NAB, headed by its chairman Justice Javed Iqbal, set a time limit of 10 months to complete the investigation. The NAB has also set up witness handling cells in all its regional bureaus. For this reason, the NAB is pursuing its cases in the respectable courts in accordance with the law on the basis of solid documentary evidence and its total conviction rate is about 66%.
The indiscriminate actions of NAB under the leadership of Chairman NAB Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal have multiplied the prestige of NAB against the powerful as NAB aims to recover the money looted from the nation by corrupt elements. All the officers / personnel of NAB are carrying out the fight against corruption with utmost diligence and in accordance with the law as a national duty.
Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal has 40 years of experience in providing justice to the aggrieved citizens. He started his career as a Sessions Judge in Quetta and served as the Acting Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. He is extremely honest person and strongly believes in performing his duties in accordance with the law. Chairman strongly believes in the self-esteem of every human being. In this regard, he has issued instructions to all the regional bureaus of NAB which are being implemented in all the regional bureaus. NAB believes in eradicating corruption by ensuring accountability to all while abiding by the law. The outstanding performance of NAB during the more than last 4 years under the leadership of Chairman NAB has yielded results.
